Temple Hill Academy Celebrates Literacy
Temple Hill Academy was filled with excitement on Tuesday, April 16th. The scholars were eager to greet and host over 55 readers. It was a day to celebrate a belated Read Across America yet close to World Book Day. Most importantly, it was a day to celebrate literacy, readers, authors, illustrators, and our community. The various guest readers visited and read to classrooms across the school. Guest readers shared their own experiences of how reading and writing influenced them in their daily life and in their careers. It was a day filled with much learning, sharing and a creation of great memories.
Much appreciation goes to our all our guests. Guest Readers included ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ District, Dr. Padilla, New York State Senator James Skoufis, New York State Assemblyman Colin Schmitt, Board of Education Members Philip Howard, Darren Stridiron, and Silvia Santiago and also district directors. Professors and coaches from area colleges and universities. We had Dr. Kimberly Zambito share a story and advice on dental health with our scholars. We also had New Windsor Police, Maddalena-Casabianca-Reade from Lap 4 Life, Habitat for Humanity, Washington’s Headquarters, representatives from the National Parks Service, Saddle Brook Farms, Gardnertown Stables, Tea Party Princesses, and other community affiliates. Authors and illustrators visited to share their craft with our K-8 scholars. Last but not least, our beloved Therapy Dogs were present to bring joy to all.
According to event co-chairs ESL/ENL Teacher Mrs. Giglia-Byrne and 6th grade English Teacher Mr. Byrne, the event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate reading, to bring our community together, and for students to learn and appreciate how people apply reading and writing in their everyday lives and become lifelong readers and learners.
