Statement from Union Presidents, Superintendent and BOE President
Dear Beloved ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ Community,
Today, all across our nation, people of every color, nationality, and ethnicity are tired of the racial injustices that plague our country. Right now, people are inspired to act as the result of the death of George Floyd, a name, like too many others, commemorates the importance of life and the need for action to ensure that all people, regardless of the color of their skin, are valued. Now is the time to act, not only on behalf of Mr. Floyd, but also in memory of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Oscar Grant, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Emmett Till, Martin Luther King, Jr. and countless others whose names we may not know.
In each case, no matter the city or circumstance, there is underlying racism that goes against who we are as a people and as a society. The pain and hurt is real, and no longer should we tolerate these senseless acts. We all must be united in our belief that racial inequities have no place in our school system, in our community, and in our country.
As a school district community, we are committed to doing better by listening to our community, promoting equity and access, and encouraging tolerance, acceptance, and unity. We will continue to strive to give every child of our district a supportive and transformative educational experience which shows each student their potential beyond the walls of our schools. We stand united in our belief that public education moves society forward. As Nelson Mandela said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
United against racial injustice,
Carole Mineo, Board President
Robert Padilla, Superintendent of Schools
Stacy Moran, NTA President
Scott Prokosch, NSAA President
Joseph Ammons, CSEA President
