Information for Families of Grade K-8 Scholars Regarding i-Ready Diagnostic

September 2020

Dear Goldback families,

The 2020-2021 school year will be different in many ways. One such way is that we will be asking our scholars in grades K - 8 to take the i-Ready Diagnostic virtually rather than in school. The diagnostic provides individualized information on our scholar’s reading and math skills. After careful consideration, we have decided it is the best way to gather information that is critical for understanding how to best serve your child’s individual academic needs.

Scholars take the i-Ready Diagnostic independently, and the results show their teachers what they learned and what they are ready to learn in reading and math. The teachers use this information to plan instruction based on individual student needs. The i-Ready Diagnostic can help our educators gather this information for each child, but only if scholars give their best effort. Your child will benefit from your support and encouragement to ensure the information received accurately reflects what they know and still need to learn.

Please familiarize yourself by watching to the Diagnostic and how to best support your child.

Your child will receive information from their teachers on the day and time they will take the diagnostic. The diagnostic is scheduled for the week of September 29th. We ask for your assistance in ensuring your child is able to give their best effort. Here are some suggested ways to assist with preparing them for the fall i-Ready Diagnostic.

As explained in the video we do not expect your child to get all the questions correct and it is important we can identify what they already know and need to learn without the assistance of an adult or sibling. We greatly appreciate your partnership in ensuring scholars show what they know on the diagnostic. Please reach out to your child's teacher if there are any additional questions or concerns.

Through the work of all,

Ms. Andrea Moriarty

Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Curriculum and Instruction

Mr. Christopher Bayer

Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Curriculum and Instruction
