School Meals Heroes Celebrate National School Breakfast Week
Last week, we celebrated National School Breakfast Week! The Newburgh School Meals team provided their standard nutritious options for scholars inside the classroom and on the go at the weekly meal distribution. As a special treat, the weekly meals included ingredients for smoothies and yogurt parfaits for scholars to make at home with their families! It was a beautiful day and our school meals heroes were so happy to share their love for with so many happy faces!
Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. Fortunately, ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ schools offer nutritious school breakfasts, complete with fruit and low-fat or fat-free milk, to ensure students are fueled for learning every school day.
The NSBW campaign theme, “Score Big with School Breakfast,” reminds the entire school community that school breakfast provides a healthy and energizing start to the day for students. Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:
- Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
- Score higher on standardized tests
- Have better concentration and memory
- Be more alert
- Maintain a healthy weight
The next weekly meal distribution will be held on Wednesday, March 17th. More information can be found here.
