Newburgh Free Library’s Newburgh Girls Code Club Launches Immersive Code Camp
The Newburgh Free Library will host an information session for the Newburgh Girls Code Club (NGCC)’s first ever Immersive Summer Code Camp, to launch July 12 through July 23, 2021. Code Camp is a 2-week intensive in person and virtual coding bootcamp designed to foster youth leadership development and STEAM learning opportunities, and close the gender gap in tech. Over 10 days, participating youth will explore the nationally renowned Girls Who Code curriculum in a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models, engage in empowerment workshops in the newly constructed NFL garden, and launch the inaugural NGCC podcast as they discover how Computer Science can change the world.
We invite all girls and nonbinary youth ages 10-18 in the Newburgh enlarged city school district, regardless of their school status, to apply. Applications will be available at the information session and on the NGCC page of the Newburgh Free Library’s website: .
The information session will be held on Monday, June 21st, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. Interested individuals can RSVP via Eventbrite: .
Funded for a second year of programming with generous support from the Community Foundation of Orange & Sullivan’s Fund for Women & Children, NGCC addresses the issue of gender inequality in the tech field by providing youth access, education, and exposure to coding skills in a casual club environment via the Newburgh Free Library.
In addition to the weekly program, students will have the opportunity to amplify their voices by co-creating NGCC’s annual Enterprising Women’s Panel and Podcast, and implement their skills at the HV Tech Festival’s Hackathon in Fall 2021. The NGCC is realized in collaboration with , a culture + wellness studio and , an open ecosystem tech resource center, both based in the city of Newburgh, NY.
