Gardnertown Pre-K Scholars Create Mural Inspired by African American Artists
Mrs. Lawler's Pre-K class created a mural inspired by 5 African American artists in honor of Black History Month. The artists and styles used as inspiration for the mural include Kehinde Wiley (people portraits), Elizabeth Catlett (stamping and etching), Betye Saar (paper collages), and Faith Ringold and Ed Johnetta Miller, known for quilts and textile art. During the mural creation, the young scholars learned the achievements and messages of these artists. They also learned that it is ok to celebrate others while loving ourselves as individuals.
