Follow-up - All schools open on regular schedule for Wednesday, April 27, 2022

April 26, 2022

Dear ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ students, faculty, staff, and families,

I’m writing to follow-up about the information that was received and investigated by local law enforcement overnight. We recognize that this is a troubling scenario and we apologize for not being able to share more specific information with our families and educators. Sharing specific information can hinder the police investigation, potentially causing a delay in resolution. Additionally, the district refuses to amplify a message that terrorizes our community.

The two-hour delay put in place this morning allowed local law enforcement additional time to conduct their investigations and district leaders time to make decisions from information that was gathered overnight. A decision to open schools after a threat is made is not taken lightly. Many people who make up our leadership team are alumni, parents, grandparents, family members, and good friends of our scholars and educators.

The NYS Assessments for grades 3-8 initially scheduled for today did not factor into the decision to open schools today. Those assessments will now be given on this Wednesday and ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ, April 27th and 28th.

Our district has been, and always will be, made up of a rich mosaic of culturally diverse and multi-talented students, employees, families, and alumni. We pride ourselves on the many unique attributes of people who come together everyday to learn about and support one another. We fully recognize and hope to remind our community that the threats made last night represent very few individuals. The safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff is held as our highest priority. The threat of violence to our schools, especially against a targeted group of people will never be tolerated and will be investigated and prosecuted appropriately in collaboration with local law enforcement.

If a student has questions or concerns, they should speak with their teacher, school counselor, social worker, coach, school psychologist, building principal, or other adult that they trust.

It is through the work of all that we will achieve inclusive excellence. We wholeheartedly appreciate and value the collaboration among our students, families, faculty, staff, and community members to uphold this collective vision.

We look forward to seeing all of our scholars in school tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Mr. Ed Forgit

Interim Superintendent of Schools

Sinceramente,

Sr. Ed Forgit

Superintendente Interino de Escuelas
