¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ 7th Graders Participate in New York Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (NY GEARUP)

On June 5 - 8, 7th grade ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ students were invited to Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC) as part of the New York Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (NY GEARUP) kick off event. Students began their day with an introduction to NY GEARUP and the opportunities they will have access to in the coming years while they are a student in the district. They also participated in team building activities facilitated by NFA North Peer Group Connection students, toured the campus with current MSMC students, utilized the athletic facilities, and had lunch in the college dining facilities.

NY GEARUP is a grant funded program through New York Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) and the U.S. Department of Education that will support this group of students through their academic career in the district. NYGEAR UP is designed to:
  • Increase the academic performance and preparation for postsecondary education of participating students, with an emphasis on career readiness and college fit;
  • Increase the rate of high school graduation, with an emphasis on college and career readiness;
  • Increase participation in postsecondary education of participating students with an emphasis on college fit and alignment with high-demand fields and sectors of the economy;
  • Increase participation in postsecondary education of participating students without need for remedial coursework;
  • Increase the rate of college persistence and completion of participating students; and
  • Increase student and family knowledge of postsecondary education options, preparation and financing.
We would like to thank Dr. Gallagher and the whole Mount Saint Mary Team for hosting a great event. We would also like to thank the NFA North PGC students for their help making each day a success.
