Newburgh Free Academy Empty Bowls Event Sells Out!
Students, faculty, staff, and retirees, families, and community members filled the space at Newburgh Free Academy, Main Campus to participate in the annual Empty Bowls event. The event sold out this year, selling 200 tickets. Mr. Joshua Lipira and his ceramics class made each bowl by hand.
Each attendee received a hand band bowl and enjoyed soup, salad, cookies, and ice cream. Soup flavors included: Lentil, spinach ravioli, stuffed pepper, chicken, corn chowder, gluten free chicken, all made by Ms. Nancy Mitchell. Ms. Mitchell has been making the soups for this event for the last four years. Dozens of baskets were raffled off and entertainment was provided by a student band.
Students volunteered to help serve and facilitate the event as part of Ms. Andrea Fleming’s 12th grade Participation in Government class.
Retired art teachers in attendance included: Ms. Monique McCutcheon, Ms. Rochelle Ottens, and Ms. Elaine DeFeo, joined by Ms. Nicole Mischo, and Mr. Joshua Lipira.
