Over 70 Scholars from the Health Science Career Education Pathway Celebrated with Pinning Ceremony


More than 70 scholars from the Health Science Career Education Pathway celebrated their accomplishment with a traditional pinning ceremony. Pins were presented to candidates for completion of requirements for: NYS Certified Nursing Assistant, Health Aide, and Health Science Course Completion.

 

A few alumni from the program returned to show support and highlight their accomplishments since their pinning ceremonies. Mariah Ashley, class of 2015, returned to give the keynote speech. Ms. Ashley is currently a graduate of SUNY Polytechnic College of Nursing and beginning a BSN program in September of 2018.

 

Scholars recited the Nursing Assistant Oath after receiving certificates and goodie bags from various community supporters. A special thanks to those who have supported these programs all year: Sapphire Nursing Care Center, St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Crystal Run Health Care, Access Supports for Living, Mr. Bill Kaplan and the Newburgh Unity Armory Center.

 

Requirements for each category:

NYS Certified Nursing Assistant: Candidates have successfully completed all course requirements, earned half a year Academic Credit in Health, two Career and Technical Education elective credits, and have earned the CTE endorsement on their diploma. The students are now on the NYS Office of Professions and NYS Department of Health Registry, they hold the credentials and title of NYS Certified Nurse Assistant. These scholars will be wearing a red cord at their upcoming high school graduation.

 

Health Aide: Candidates have successfully completed all course requirements, earned half a year academic credit in Health, two Career and Technical Education elective credits, and have demonstrated successful competency in Skill Performance Competency after NYS Department of Health Skill test and/or NOCTI performance exam. These students have met the skill requirements of Health Aide. These scholars will be wearing a red cord at their upcoming high school graduation.

 

Health Science Education Course Completion: Candidates have successfully completed all course requirements, earned half a year Academic Credit in Health, two Career and Technical Education elective credits.

 

The Health Science Career Education Pathway program is taught by 2018 ACTE Teacher of the year, Mrs. Linda Romano, Ms. Elizabeth Corcoran, and Dr. Stacy Shewprashad.
